JXN Water shares its Transition Plan with all parties and makes it available to the public
JACKSON, Miss. — In accordance with the federal Stipulated Order, JXN Water has shared its ITPM Transition Plan with all parties and is making it available to the public. Read the full Transition Plan and the media backgrounder.
The plan marks the next step in the revitalization of Jackson’s water system and opens a new chapter: working together to develop the path to long-term sustainability.
Since 2022, JXN Water has worked to stabilize and improve the system. Alongside experts and local partners, it developed a plan that takes the utility from interim management to a community-led, not-for-profit entity that will maintain that progress and build on it.
To chart that path, the plan evaluated five governance options against what a stable utility requires:
- independence from political turnover
- the ability to refinance debt and raise capital for repairs
- the time and cost to implement
- how much control customers have over their own system
“Jackson residents deserve to see the plan for their water system, not just hear about it,” said Aisha Carson, Lead Communications Officer for JXN Water. “Transparency has guided our work, and the transition should be no different. This is a moment for every partner to come to the table and build a utility that serves Jackson for generations.”
The parties are now reviewing the plan. Under the Stipulated Order, it is to be filed with the Court within 15 days of receiving their comments, and every step of the transition requires Court approval.
Nothing changes for customers today. Service, billing and customer care continue as usual. Customers with questions can reach JXN Water Customer Care 24/7 at 601-500-5200.
JXN Water is hopeful that all partners will keep the long-term sustainability of Jackson’s water system at the forefront of the path forward.
