JXN Water and Jacobs Proactively Address Water Treatment Disinfection Byproduct Levels in the Groundwater System
JXN Water continues to make improvements in the groundwater system, just as improvements are being made in the larger surface water system. The JXN Water groundwater system serves nearly 10 percent of the JXN Water customers, in the southern and western portions of the service area.
A big focus has been fixing leaks in the system and in the case of the groundwater system, ensuring the system is fully isolated from the surface water system. However, due to these improvements, especially the reduction in water loss through repair of defects in the system, water from the well system has a longer residence time in the City’s and resident’s pipes. As a result, we recently saw an uptick in levels of disinfection by-products in two of the four distribution sites within the groundwater system.
JXN Water Collections Improving
Letters to customers with past due balances began going out in March and many customers have stepped up and paid their past due balances to avoid disconnection. Other letters were sent to customers using water without accounts informing them their service will be disconnected if they do not set up an account with JXN Water. Many have established accounts as a result of these notices.
